WOD:
Pain by Lisbeth Darsh of CrossFit Watertown

The iron is unforgiving, as is life sometimes. Things don’t always go your way in a workout, at your job, with your loved ones. Hell, things might not even go your way at the gas station or the supermarket. They’re out of unleaded, or somebody has 32 items in the 15 item “Express” line and slows everything down. It happens. Get over it.
In a workout, you might blast through the first round of “Fran” but then the second round goes a bit slower, and the third round destroys you and leaves you with a miserable time. It happens. Get over it.
Your life might start out rosy and picture perfect, but then something happens and you find yourself in a place you never imagined, never dreamed of, with a lot of questions and few answers and you feel like you’re in that third round of “Fran” but it never ends. It happens. But here’s the deal: It doesn’t matter what happened. What matters is how you deal with it.
You can sit there and look at the past and be depressed, or you can forge ahead. You can just decide to do thrusters and pull-ups until your hands give out and your heart explodes. (That’s a metaphor. Don’t go and actually do that, crazy people.) You can decide that you’re still breathing and life is short and you’re damned if you’re going to give up and sit down and cry.
Because life isn’t won by the criers. It’s not even lived well. If your heart is still beating, you’re still in the game and you’re damn lucky. Make the most of your life. Make the most of today.
Maya Angelou wrote: “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
So don’t be defeated. Rise from it. Come out of it. There’s no “Fran” without pain. There’s no victory without pain. There’s no life without pain. It happens. Get over it. Pick up the iron and start working. Learn who you really are and, more importantly, who you could become. I’m guessing it’s somebody better than who you already are.
